Yes, unfortunately it is a thing, and occurs when someone you don't want in your meeting accesses and gains control of your screen and/or audio.
There are a number of suggestions, ranging from locking sharing options to password-protecting your session, in this helpful article from UC Berkeley to help ensure your meeting can't be hijacked.
Options include:
- You can lock screen sharing in the settings of your meeting or after starting it to:
- allow the host only to share
- allow all participants to share but limit sharing to the host plus one participant at a time who is given those rights
- Turn off file transfer
- Allow only signed-in users to join
