Managing Conflict of Interest
Employees or owners of commercial interests can have no role in planning or implementing CME activities. further, employees/owners of commercial interests cannot serve as faculty or presenters of accredited CME activities except under a very limited set of circumstances. Those circumstances are listed below but please contact us for help in handling such situations before proceeding:
Per ACCME standards, any person employed by a commercial interest cannot participate in planning or teaching a CME activity unless:
- The employee is presenting content that is not related to the business lines or products of their employer
- the content is limited to basic science research (e.g., pre-clinical research, drug discovery) or the processes/methodologies of research, themselves unrelated to a specific disease or compound/drug.
- The employee of ACCME-defined commercial interest is participating as a technician in accredited CME activities that teach the safe and proper use of medical devices.
