Commercial Support of Education Events

Please note: If you plan to apply for commercial support or will have exhibitors at your event, we require you to  attest that you have reviewed this section of our guide, understood its contents, and commit to ensuring that your activity will meet the ACCME standards for commercial support. The attestation form is here.

What is Commercial Support?

A commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients OR any entity owned by an organization that meets this definition.

Commercial support for an activity is financial or in-kind (e.g. an equipment loan) given by a commercial interest and used to pay all or part of the costs of an activity.

If your activity receives any form of support from a commercial entity, i.e. financial or non-financial (in-kind) support, then the ACCME standard for commercial support must be followed to ensure that the activity is free from the control of that commercial interest.
